Former Laconia resident to exhibit photos at Belknap Mill: Bill Laforme Nature Photography show runs July 2-31

Nature photographer Bill Laforme’s work will be on display at the Belknap Mill in Laconia from July 2through July 31. A reception to celebrate the opening of the exhibit will be held on Wednesday, July 2 from 5 – 7pm. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday 10am – 6pm and Saturday 10am – 4pm.  A selection of his photos will also be available for sale during this time.


Laforme, currently a resident of Salem, Massachusetts, is a former Laconia resident who was a news editor at the Laconia Citizen from 2004 to 2007. He has worked in writing and journalism for various websites and publications since 1995 and started Bill Laforme Nature Photography in 2012 after years of taking pictures for news articles and of sharing hiking and kayaking photos with friends.  The earliest nature photos came from days off while working at restaurants at Grand Canyon and Yellowstone national parks in the early 1990s while attending UMass Dartmouth.


“Photography, nature and exploring the outdoors have long been among my great passions in life, and I feel that this shows throughout my work,” said Laforme. Much of Laforme’s nature photography focuses on New England – partiTwilight on the Androscoggin by Bill Laformecularly New Hampshire and the North Shore/Cape Ann areas of Massachusetts. He regularly travels to popular scenic destinations as well as remote places in New England, with current favorites including Lake Umbagog and the White Mountains in New Hampshire and Plum Island and his native North Shore in Massachusetts. A travel and outdoor sports enthusiast, Laforme also offers images from a variety of other natural settings, including in Quebec, Mexico, Nova Scotia, Alaska, and Washington State. “With these pictures, I try to illustrate how these open spaces are worth preserving and exploring,” said Laforme.


A wide selection of Laforme’s nature photos, including framed and matted images as well as notecards, are available for sale at He also regularly participates in arts events in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, including the Topsfield Fair and Salem Arts Association events. The Belknap Mill is the oldest, unaltered brick textile mill in the country. It has a permanent exhibit that interprets the history of the textile industry in Laconia, and has changing monthly exhibits focusing on the arts and history, as well as educational programs for all ages.
