February Events and Deals in NH’s Lakes Region

Lakes Region, NH – In many ways, it isn’t fair to call the winter months the New Hampshire Lakes Region’s “off season.” Undoubtedly, there are lots of things going on in the summer to make the Lakes Region a perfect vacation spot, but many people get the impression that there are only things to do in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region during summer.

The Lakes Region has much more to offer than swimming and boating during the warmer months, though. There are great things going on in NH’s Lakes Region during winter, too. There are plenty of opportunities for downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, tubing, ice skating, ice fishing, and more. And the people of the Lakes Region don’t hibernate during the winter; they’re still having fun and hosting events. In the month of February, these events include:

• The New England Pond Hockey Classic from February 1-3 in Meredith, NH. Come watch teams come from near and far to battle for the coveted trophy!
• Couple Retreat Weekend on February 2 & 3 at the Wolfeboro Inn in Wolfeboro, NH. A retreat that includes a seminar on reconnecting with your partner as well as stunning accommodations. Reconnect with your special someone just in time for Valentine’s Day!
• Meredith Rotary Club Fishing Derby on February 9 & 10. For the 2013 Derby, the Meredith Rotary Club will be providing all cash prizes. The heaviest fish in each category wins!
• President’s Day Sale from February 15-18 at the Tanger Outlets in Tilton, NH. Find extra winter savings: shop over 55 of your favorite brand name outlet stores!
• 3rd Annual Winter Fest on February 16 at Prescott Farm in Laconia, NH. Activities include sleigh rides, a bonfire & s’mores, face painting, crafts, sledding, a snow sculpture contest, and more!
• Bird Banding on February 20 from 10am-12pm at the Squam Lake Natural Science Center in Holderness, NH. A great chance to see wild birds up close! Find out why and how the Science Center captures and bands the birds at their feeding station.
Continued…
While they’re definitely fun, the events in the Lakes Region aren’t the only reason to visit: the “off-season” rates, ski & stay packages, and romantic getaway packages might also appeal to potential travelers. For example, the Mountain Edge Resort and Spa in Mt. Sunapee, NH is offering a Valentine’s Day Special, and many other year-round establishments, like the Fireside Inn & Suites, offer romantic getaway packages. Many hotels offer accommodation packages that come with ski passes, like The Mountain Club on Loon in Lincoln, NH; The Lighthouse Inn Bed & Breakfast in Laconia, NH; and Steele Hill Resort in Sanbornton, NH.

The Lakes Region Tourism Association is the official tourism board of the region, representing close to 100 communities, 273 lakes and ponds, and more than 400 businesses in central New Hampshire, including area attractions, restaurants, retail establishments and accommodations. For more information or visitors guides, visit LakesRegion.org, facebook.com/NHLakesRegion or follow on Twitter. The LRTA office is at Exit 20 on Route 3 in Tilton, and it can be reached by calling (800) 60-LAKES.
